About the Fulton High School Library:Contents:How to Find It @ Your Library | Printing and Copying | Library Rules | Circulation of Materials | Computer Usage How to Find It @ Your LibraryCall numbers (which sometimes don't contain numbers at all, only letters!) are printed on labels on the spines of books to help us keep the books in order--and sometimes color-coded stickers are added--to help you find what you need on the shelves quickly and easily, either with the help of the library catalog or at a quick glance. The Fulton Library uses the Dewey Decimal system of Classification for Nonfiction books; these are found on the shelves that line the outer walls of the library. In the catalog, you may see some Dewey Decimal call numbers that are preceded by the letter R. These are reference books, located on the short shelves to the right of the computers, and they are for in-library use only; they may not be checked out. Fiction books are located on the short shelves to the left of the computers; we use the call number FIC plus the first 3 letters of the author's last name (even though fiction could actually be "classed" in 813 in the Dewey Decimal system). Short Stories are located around the corner from the circulation desk, by Ms. Brinks' office. We use SC plus 3 letters (author's last name if possible, otherwise title) for the Call Number of these story collections. Biographies have their own section against the far wall of the library; call numbers all begin with a B, plus the first 3 letters of the last name of the subject of the book. (Biography could actually be "classed" in Dewey as 921). We do use a Dewey classification number for collective biography--the story of more than one person's life. These are the 920s, and they begin at the end of the individual biography section. The Fulton Library has a strong Accelerated Reader (AR) program, featuring so many different kinds of books that there is something for every reader. AR books all have a round orange sticker on the spine, and you will find them not only in the fiction section, but also in a special section to the right of the circulation desk, right in front of Ms. Brinks' office. This section contains Biographies, Short Story Collections, and Dewey Classified books with Accelerated Reader quizzes available. The final special section you should know about is for Graphic Novels , including Manga. These books are so popular in the Fulton Library that we put them right up front, to the left of the circulation desk, with a round blue sticker on the spine, so they are easy to spot!
